Ed Mayne was born within the sight of the gigantic Bingham Open Pit Copper Mine, graduated from Kearns Jr. High School and Granger High School, and went on to Snow College in Southern Utah. He later transferred to the University of Utah, while working at the Bingham Copper Mine. Ed was a hard rock miner by occupation for 14 years. During this time he became a spokesman for Utah’s working families, retirees and for people without voice to State, Federal, City and County governments, where laws are deliberated that impact people.

Ed is married to the former Karen “Hibler”. Karen also attended Kearns Jr. High School and graduated from Granger High School. They have two married children, Paul and Jamie.

Karen has also been very active in the community, she has been the P.T.A President at West Kearns Elementary School, Team Mother for several girls and boys Little League sports, and most recently completed two terms on the Utah Transit authority (U.T.A) Board of Directors representing West Valley City, Kearns and Taylorsville. Karen’s voice was loud and clear for more access and improved service to our west side community. Karen currently serves as a Board Member of the Kearns Recreation Center, the Healthy Taylorsville Committee, the Kearns Coalition (Taste of Kearns Committee), and is Vice President of the Kearns Lion Club.

Ed and Karen have lived in Senate District 5 for 46 years. Both of their parents have resided there for over 50 years.

Ed has had some very unique honors and tributes given to him. 1st in 1993 when the three County Commissioners named a street after him, “ED MAYNE STREET”, for his Community Service to Salt Lake County and his help in developing the Oquirrh Hill Park across from Kearns High School. 2nd in 1994 the State Board of Regents through the Salt Lake Community College bestowed upon Ed an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters Degree for his Community Service to the State of Utah and support of the Salt Lake Community College. 3rd in 1998 Ed was appointed as the Consumer Representative to the Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco representing Utah and none western states. 4th in 2000, Ed was asked by the Salt Lake Olympic Committee and President Mitt Romney to be the Venue Chair of the E-Center which hosted the Olympic Hockey matches. And 5th in 2002, S.L.O.C President Mitt Romney asked Ed to carry the Olympic Torch in front or Kearns High School and the Olympic Speed Skating Oval down to “ED MAYNE STREET”. Ed said, “To carry the Olympic Torch was such an honor, I will never forget that wonderful experience for t5he rest of my life to be able to represent the families of our west side”. Ed was one of only three known elected public officials nationwide who was asked to carry the Olympic Torch.

Ed has worked hard for his West Side Community and the State of Utah and has represented them before the State Legislature and National Congress where legislation vital to our families well-being is deliberated.

Ed co-chaired a committee to install lights on the football field at Hunter High School. Thus allowing students access to nighttime school activities. He also helped on the Granger High, and Kearns High Football Field Lighting Projects.

Ed sits on many committees like the Utah Legislative Gang Task Force, the United Ways/Salt Lake County Children’s “Success by 6” Committee, and the White House Conference on Families because of his great concern for the welfare of children and love of his West Side Community and State of Utah.

Ed has raised financial assistance to help make it possible for children to participate in Girls Fast and slow Pitch Softball, Little League Football, Little League Baseball, and Soccer to name a few, in the Kearns, West Valley, Taylorsville, Murray, Magna areas.

Ed has fiercely defended his West Side Community, he is concerned about making our community and neighborhoods safe from crime, giving our Utah workers decent paying jobs, fairness in taxes, and affordable health care for all.

Ed has been an active participant in his community, and has listened to the needs and concerns of his neighbors. He is someone who represents his Senate District and the State of Utah well, a concerned voice that will be heard. Someone who has a proven record of getting the job done.
